So you’ve done it, you’ve finally made the call to one of Lake Texoma fishing guides and you’re anxiously waiting for the trip to come up on the calendar. It’s a fun time, believe me, and you’ll have a lot of fun but take this post to heart because although a day at the lake is fun, a bad sunburn or a wet trip is worse, so it never hurts to be prepared.

I chose to break this post down in a list for your viewing pleasure, and I’ve also found some online stores that have some great prices for the items too if you have the patience and/or wisdom to order them prior to your trip to Texoma.

Two quality ice chests

What else are you going to take your freshly caught fish home with? If you don’t already have one I’d recommend a plastic one with both handles and wheels, you’d be surprised at how heavy some of these fish can get and it’ll surprise you how much they’ll wear you out reeling them in! I’d also recommend you get a cooler with a plug on the side to allow the ice water to melt out as you get ready to cook or store your fish for the day.

Your second ice chest will be used for storing whatever drinks, snacks, or anything else you wish to bring on the trip for you cold. Although in my opinion you should eat a large meal prior to going out to allow you the most time to catch fish, our guides are more than happy to allow you a short intermission for lunch on the water.

Oh and don’t forget the ice, you’d be surprised how often people over look this in a hurry to reach the lake.

A fishing license

These can be found almost anywhere including Wal-Mart, local gas stations, and a person favorite of mine is the ease and simplicity that comes with doing it online. There purpose is pretty self explanatory but you’ll want to confer with your guide as to who in group will need one and of what type.

Wet weather clothes

Forgetting these kinds of things can turn a great fishing trip into a horrible experience for you, and we’re here to prevent it!

Guys if you take nothing else from this page, take this, do not forget to bring a poncho, or some sort of outfit catered to preventing you from being drenched by the rain. Amazon carries quite a few of these for more than reasonable prices so take this time to outfit your family or group of friends with a few of these, they’re a life saver should the weather take an unfortunate turn.

Sun block, no fishing trip is worth the week of pain that you’ll have to endure without it

Polarized sunglasses and hats are also great to both help your visibility out on the water and help to further prevent a sun burn.

Lastly but not least you’ll want to bring a camera, how else are you going to prove that monster you caught with our Lake Texoma fishing guides is real?

A fishing guide can do more for your family than help you catch some great fish, they can keep you from potentially getting hurt fishing out on your own. Here are a list of scenarios that I’ve heard about over the years and a few I’ve actually experienced while fishing on new waters without a knowledge of the lake.

1) Getting stuck on a sandbar.

If you set sail on a new lake such as Lake Texoma you really aren’t familiar with the lake’s surroundings and areas that typically give both anglers and fun seekers problems when navigating.

2) Getting lost!

I know we’ve all done it at one point in time, even I myself have started out in a new lake full of confidence only to be cursing myself and my lack of foresight in planning ahead several hours earlier. And although this has not happened to me I’ve recently heard of anglers not only having to deal with the trouble of being lost but having this minor annoyance multiplied by the factor of running out of gas. Save both you and your family alot of stress and time and just take a peek at our Lake Texoma fishing guides page.

3) Catching no fish.

As with many of the fishing trips I had on unfamiliar lakes, you could potentially have the misfortune of retiring to your residence with nothing to show for all your effort. Do yourself and your family a favor and visit our Lake Texoma striper guides page to see why Texoma is known nationwide for producing trophy striper.

4) And probably the most stressful of all, bored children! Dum Dum Dummmmm

But on a serious note we all want to enjoy your trip to Lake Texoma and children are no different. I’m sure you know better than I do but with all that technology offers today children often find it hard to concentrate on anything without a battery or power. Our website is dedicated to providing you with fishing guides that can hook your children up with something that can stimulate their minds for hours and even provide them with some of that dreaded exercise that doctors always recommend.
